Description

An eclectic, multi-genre collection of original stories about the power of communication, the magic of writing instruments, and the strength of community, curated to inspire wonder, hope, and joy.

Eclectic, imaginative, and unexpected, Community of Magic Pens features forty genre-spanning flash and short stories—including fantasy, humor, science fiction, romance, historical fiction, satire, and mystery—bringing together a rich group of diverse voices from a wide range of backgrounds and intersections.

Fountain pens, markers and ink, charcoals, spy pens, a braille writer, a printing press, virtual reality, and a supernatural pizza: whether revealing unspoken truths, fighting injustice, or finding friendship and love, our pens have power. Join us as a recent graduate of superhero school struggles to understand her gift, a disabled android interviews for a job, a queen’s conscripted artist must pull reality from illustrations on parchment, and a grandmother’s secret room is…better kept a secret. Tales of struggle and triumph, compassion and hope: Community of Magic Pens is a celebration of our shared story.

What will you see written when the pens speak?

Cover Description, For the Visually Impaired

Cover Jacket Description:

The entire cover jacket is a sunny yellow, with colorful scribbles and doodles.

Front Cover:

Across the top half of the front cover, the title says “Community of Magic Pens” in a font that looks handwritten in purple marker. Around the title, there are lavender and blue ink splotches to the upper left, a rainbow scribble to the upper right, and a few light blue stars and dots to the far right.

Four anthropomorphic pens are spaced across the bottom half of the front cover, standing happily in a line. They do not have legs, but they each have cartoonish stick arms and cartoonish faces. From left-to-right:

First, a copper-colored fineliner pen is smiling with a red cap and a moustache. The arms are down, and one is holding a cane for the visually impaired.

Second, a blue fine-nibbed pen or marker with light stripes is holding arms up to the face in happy surprise. Small black shirt buttons run down the front.

Third, a dark gray or black stylus with a couple of small button controls and a content face has arms to the sides, and is wearing a rainbow-colored headscarf.

Fourth, a gold fountain pen or dip pen is raising arms high and smiling. The pen wears a large gold beret, has glasses and a bowtie, and is adorned with wavy gold decorations and dots as if embellished or engraved.

A signature: “AJCreations” is scrawled in pink and purple to the lower right of the pens.

Across the bottom, reads: “An Atthis Arts Anthology.” A black scribble rests on the bottom left, near the spine, and a pink star with some dots is to the far right side.

Back Cover:

The teaser synopsis stretches across the top half of the back cover.

To the right side, closer to the spine, under the teaser, there is a cartoon red pencil with a red ponytail laying down with one arm raised. The pencil has prominent long eyelashes and is softly smiling.

Under the pencil, the authors’ names are listed.

To the bottom center of the back cover, in between the Atthis Arts logo and the barcode, there is a small jar of black ink labeled “Creative Ink” that is gently spilling onto the page.

Spine:

Stretched vertically down the spine from top to bottom is: “Edited by E.D.E. Bell” in a gold, rigid font, followed by a small pink ink blotch, then the title: “Community of Magic Pens” in black in the marker font, followed by a lavender silhouette of the Atthis Arts logo, which is a little hummingbird on a tree branch.
